Celebrating 35 years of journalistic integrity, Benildean Press Corps (BPC), the official student publication of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), welcomes the academic year with the new Editorial Board for P.Y. 2026-2027.
This year’s editorial board will be led by four top editors, moving forward without an Editor-in-Chief. The new Associate Editor for Print (Full-fledged) is ID124 student Anna La Rosa from the AB Animation Program. Former Associate Editor for Print, ID123 BS Architecture (BS-ARCH) student Keith Espina, transitions as the new Associate Editor for Digital Media (Full-fledged). ID124 Hann Botona from AB-Multimedia Arts (ABMMA) takes the lead as the new Creative Director (Acting) and Licienn Buensalida, ID124 from the BSBA Marketing Management (BSBA-MM) program is named new Managing Editor (Acting).
For the writing sections, Zephra Borja, ID124 AB Diplomacy and International Affairs (AB-DIA) was selected as the News Editor (Acting), while Kathleen Bauto, an ID125 BSBA-MM student was appointed the new Sports Editor (Full-fledged). Additionally, ID124 Angela Aldovino from AB-DIA hails as the new Features Editor (Full-fledged), and Kate Solinap, ID125 BS Interior Design (BS-INS) student, is the newly named Patnugot ng Filipino (Full-fledged). Lastly, the new Literary Editor (Acting) is Anne Margarette Perez, an ID123 student from AB Film (ABFILM).
The creatives pool will be entirely handled by acting editors. Rafaiel Joaquin Mangubat took on the role of the Art and Design Editor, Antoine Tanag assumed the role of Layout Editor, and Wrique Ella de Vera took the position of Video Editor, all three hailing as ID125 ABMMA students. Furthermore, Jewen Batinan, ID124 ABFILM, was appointed as the Photo Editor, and Jamiraquai Jaso, ID124 AB-DIA, was designated as Digital Media Editor.
In the managing section, Vince Guiyab, an ID125 AB-DIA student, stepped into the position of Assistant Managing Editor (Full-fledged).
The new editors had undergone a thorough application process which included different levels of evaluation through an onsite examination, Shadow Tasks, and a panel interview with the presentation of a General Plan of Action (GPOA). Aside from these, the student journalists were individually assessed based on their outputs, residency hours, and academic standing, all of which were deliberated by the outgoing editorial board and associates of the Student Publications Unit (SPU).
In an interview with The Benildean, Espina and La Rosa had a shared mission for this upcoming publication year in terms of doing their duties to reach the publication’s goals.
“I want to help ensure that BPC continues to grow with the changing media landscape without losing sight of the values that have formerly defined the publication. With the continued rise of social media trends and artificial intelligence (AI), BPC should strive to remain steadfast in upholding journalistic integrity and accountability with the ever-evolving content that we produce,” Espina specified.
He also highlighted the upcoming 35th SPU anniversary, “I hope we can celebrate what the publication has accomplished while also reflecting on the kind of publication we want to build for the next generation. I want this year to be both a continuation of the mark we’ve made on Benilde’s legacy and a step toward following where that thread goes next.”
Espina reiterated their approach in the leadership for the new editorial board, stating that “Rather than seeing the unfilled EIC position as a limitation, we see it as an opportunity for us to strengthen our collective leadership and make sure that every member continues progressing toward the same vision.”
“I understand that the responsibilities will be shared among the top editors. I want to take more initiative in handling tasks while improving my time management so I can balance my organizational and academic responsibilities effectively,” La Rosa also added.
With the new publication year ahead and a fresh executive leadership, BPC is ready to enter its 35th year of commitment to its service of upholding the truth in campus journalism.
