SPU student-journalists represent the Philippines in IABC World Conference 2024


The four Benildeans were the only students from the Philippines who attended the global gathering at Chicago, Illinois, USA.

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde's Student Publications Unit (SPU) represented the Philippines in the IABC World Conference 2024 with four students and one associate on June 23 to 26 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in Illinois, USA.

 

Spearheaded by SPU Head Ms. Dayanara Cudal, who also attended the conference, the delegation included representatives from SPU’s two student organizations, namely the Benildean Press Corps (BPC), the official student-journalists’ of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, and Ad Astra, the official student organization tasked to produce the College yearbook.

 

BPC representatives include Managing staffer and ID 122 Export and Global Management student Jan Louis Layacan and Sports writer ID 122 Hendriks Valencia, who hails from the Real Estate Management program. Meanwhile, ID 123 Information Systems student Gabrielle Ysabel Almirol, who is a web development staffer, and Customer Support Editor John Elmer Lacson, an ID 122 Diplomacy and International Affairs student, represented Ad Astra.

 

The IABC World Conference is the premier event of IABC for communication professionals. The event was designed for today’s communicators to connect with other delegates from around the world. This year’s edition of the IABC World Conference has the theme “Communication Creates,” focusing on communication’s ability to forge, change, manifest, and create.

 

The annual conference featured a series of insightful talks, discussions, and lectures led by some of the world's top communication professionals. The conference hosted exclusive talks by a distinguished lineup of speakers, including former United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz, best-selling author Kim Clark, sustainability strategists Lee Ballin, Fritz Bratschie, Katy Motiey, Allison Binns, and Annie Agle, renowned psychologist Catherine Sanderson, and celebrated sound and communication expert Julian Treasure.

 

The IABC is the global organization from which the Philippine Quill Awards is based. Benilde has won back-to-back School of the Year awards in the Student Quill Awards, with majority of the entries coming from the Student Publications Unit.

 

The next edition of the IABC World Conference will be held on June 8 to 11, 2025 in Vancouver, Canada.
