Following knee surgery, MVP Mycah Go confident she will play in Season 99

Despite the significant setback, Mycah Go won't let uncertainties take over as she seeks a comeback sooner than expected

Reigning NCAA Volleyball MVP Mycah Go is all smiles following a successful knee surgery on Jan. 20, and is even confident of returning to the next NCAA season.

In an exclusive interview with The Benildean, Go confirmed that she suffered multiple injuries that kept her out of season. The Lady Blazers' star player reiterated that she has nothing to worry about, despite suffering a torn ACL, MCL strain, LCL strain, and a severe Meniscus tear that eventually chipped a bone.

"'Di naman siya end of career for me, it's just an injury and gano'n naman talaga ‘yung life for athletes, and it's normal para sa akin so nothing to worry talaga," the former team captain of the Lady Blazers said.

Go is currently undergoing her post-surgery therapies and was advised to have an estimated nine-month recovery period. But Go is optimistic about cutting the estimated recovery duration with good rehabilitation results.

When asked about her commitment to the NCAA Season 99, Go had a confident assurance, "For sure [I will play] in the next season, definitely, yes."

Go also benefits from her teammates and coaches, as everyone is helping in her recovery. The coaching staff is keen on aiding her with proper rehabilitation and also taking a boost from her teammates, especially in dealing with her mental health.

"Grabe" is the word that expresses Go’s gratitude towards the school for helping her through the injuries. Given that Benilde covered her medical expenses, Go has been very grateful for the assistance given to her by the College.

"Thankful ako na kahit wala ako sa line-up, supposedly wala akong [athletes'] benefits, pero binigyan pa rin nila ako ng jersey and nilagay nila ako sa coaching staff,” the 22-year-old star said. Go is expected to be seen on the Lady Blazers' bench once she's in good walking condition.

Still being in the early stages of her recovery, Go already found some takeaways from her situation.

And pray lang lagi,” she mentioned.

Despite sacrificing a year to her three remaining playing years in the collegiate ranks, Go is confident that the Lady Blazers are still a high-caliber team.

"Isa lang naman ako sa mga [star players], since ako lang naman ‘yung nagiisang nawala, andiyan naman sila so I know [that] they can handle the team. Marami namang seniors to handle the team, so I think lalaban naman ‘yan,” Go assured.

The former team captain also had her thoughts on the quick transition of the team to the newly appointed team captain, Cloanne Mondoñedo. Okay si Cloanne since marami akong alam sa kanya, same kami ng coach since high school, same kami ng culture. She’s handling the team so well kasi nagle-lead naman siya sa team, ‘di naman bago sa amin ‘yon kasi isa din naman siya sa mga seniors.”

The NCAA Season 97 MVP and first Best Outside Spiker revealed her high trust in the team. Despite being the lone star among the team to grab an individual award last season, Go assures that multiple big names will rise for the Lady Blazers.

The Lady Blazers are set to open their campaign on Feb. 18 in the NCAA Season 98 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the San Andres Sports Complex, Malate. Catch their upcoming games live on the GTV channel and online via the NCAA Philippines and GMA Sports PH YouTube channels.
