De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Lady Blazers team captain Mycah Go will not be playing for Season 98 after suffering a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The Lady Blazers, defending their title in the upcoming season, will continue without their key player and team captain after sustaining an injury after a practice game last Saturday, Jan. 14.

According to the Lady Blazers’ strength and conditioning coach JP Martires, PTRP, after an MRI scan on Jan. 16, they confirmed that the open hitter suffered from a torn ACL and also sustained a complex tearing of Medial Meniscus, minor Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) strains. Recovery will take around nine months or earlier but will depend on the progress during the rehab period, said Martires.

Go will undergo surgery on Jan. 20, according to Benilde’s Center for Sports Development (CSD) Director, Mr. Stephen Fernandez.

In a private message to The Benildean, head coach Jerry Yee said not to worry about the team despite Go’s injury before Season 98.

“Regarding the team, we are heading into the season as strong as last year… One player down, but the whole team is one championship stronger since,” Yee said.

Go was a key player for the Benilde Lady Blazers’ Season 97 championship and was hailed the NCAA Season 97 Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The Lady Blazers are set to defend their women’s volleyball title in Season 98 starting Feb. 18.
