Benildean achievers from the Men’s Basketball Team and Saint Benilde Romançon Dance Company were celebrated with a thanksgiving program at the Augusto Rosario Gonzalez Theater in Taft Campus today, Jan. 13.
The program started with a Holy Mass hosted by the Center for Lasallian Ministry (CLM) with some of the Blazers serving as readers for the mass. After, Chancellor Mr. Benhur Ong opened the second segment of the program to start off the main event for the program.
Mr. Ong said, “Let us continue to support our other sports athletes and performing artists and strengthen each member of the Benildean community as we blaze ahead.”
Blazers’ Coach Charles Tiu also shared his gratitude to the community and the players for a historic season. He mentioned that he is looking forward to making the Benildean community proud and that maybe one day they could “win the championship for our basketball team.”
Team captain JC Cullar stepped up the stage and got a bit emotional reliving the moments from his last playing season after watching the video prepared by The Benildean for the celebration. “I’m about to graduate but I’ll always be a Benildean. Benilde and this community [...] you guys will always be part of my journey here, you always have a place in my heart,” Cullar shared during his speech.
Meanwhile, NCAA Season 98 MVP Will Gozum also shared the stage to express his gratitude to the community. In an exclusive interview with The Benildean, he mentioned how grateful he is to be part of the Strong Group that will be competing in Dubai by the end of January. “Sobrang thankful ako na sinama ako do’n ni Coach Charles and ‘yung experience ko do’n, for sure madadala ko ‘yon sa basketball career ko,” Gozum said.
The Saint Benilde Romançon Dance Company also graced the stage with a live performance before their Company Manager Jastine Son shared her sentiments upon winning as Champions in the College Division of Campus Dance Drive Year 4.
The program commenced with a thanksgiving dinner at the cafeteria in Taft Campus.
