Students of the Department of Marketing and Advertising (DMA) were able to enjoy fun activities and informative talks on April 25 to 30 thanks to “MADness Week,” a week-long event conducted by the Junior Entrepreneurs Marketing Association (JEMA) and the AdCreate Society via their Facebook page and Zoom.

This event was created by the Marketing and Advertising organizations of De La Salle University Manila to encourage all members of the DMA, students of all year levels, and staff members to grow closer to their department while also building up awareness and appreciation for the industry through the activities conducted. It provided more opportunities for students to showcase their skills and mingle with coursemates, while also promoting camaraderie within and outside the DMA.

Within the five-day duration of the event, multiple activities took place via their Facebook page and Zoom meetings. Included in the event was a video series interviewing staff and students of the DMA, podcast episodes focused on the experiences of students within the department, media recommendations, a list of the different electives and majors of the course, a talk on the evolution of marketing and advertising, and even a culminating night to cap off the entire event.

“MADness Week’s” first event entitled “Mad Unfiltered” featured Marketing Professor Mr. Joel Legazpi, as well as DMA students Alex Adriano and Alvin Sy. This event focused on the unpopular opinions and memorable experiences that took place as members of the DMA. Furthermore, one of the major events conducted was a podcast hosted via their Facebook page called “Speaking of MAD” hosted by Therese Tandonay, another student of the DMA.

Accompanying her were guest speakers Avina Lok, Nikki Bienvenida, and Elle Gaoat, students taking up Marketing and Advertising degree programs. In the two episodes of the podcast, the host and their guests talked about their experiences with their course, what to expect as a DMA student, what benefits come with taking up marketing and advertising, as well as what the environment was like working in a face-to-face setting.

The week-long event not only provided students with MAD related documentaries, movies, books and podcasts for them to enjoy and broaden their views regarding the industry, but also information regarding the course itself. “For Your MAD-Information” was a series of posts containing questions and answers from the different professors in the department regarding the Marketing and Advertising courses being offered. They shared what to expect with the course as well as some memorable experiences.
