With the theme “I am La Salle: Called to Hope and Commitment,” the first ever Benilde Community Engagement Awards (BCEA), along with various online activities prepared by the College, commenced in celebration of Lasallian week from Jan. 25 to Jan. 30, via different online platforms such as Zoom and Facebook.

Vice President for Lasallian Mission and Student Life Neil Pariñas officially opened BCEA with a speech discussing the social development framework, emphasizing on the importance of social involvement, transformative learning, and partnership centering on common good and human dignity.

“When we combine transformative learning and social involvement, it will result in the term “may pakialam.” [...] Ang awards natin (BCEA) ay isang pag gawad sa mga Benildyanong may pakialam at malasakit na bunga ng ‘transformative learning’ at ‘social involvement,’” Mr. Pariñas said.

Moreover, he commended the sense of service of the BCEA awardees committed to the College, and how they reached out and helped their fellow countrymen despite the community quarantine.

“The awardees are impelled by their sense of altruism, zeal of service, and social responsibility that impelled them to reach out to their fellow human beings. [...] And it is something that is worth noticing and recognizing,” he stated.
