South Korea-based tech giant Samsung unveiled its latest products including the new S21 5G series, Galaxy Buds Pro, and Galaxy SmartTag Bluetooth tracker at the Galaxy Unpacked 2021 virtual event last Jan. 14.
President and Head of Mobile Communications Tae Moon Roh stated that 2020 has made them more determined to fully tap the immense power and potential of technology. With this, Samsung will push innovation further in 2021, starting the year off with the following:
Galaxy Samsung S21 & S21 Plus with 5G support
Samsung introduced the newest part of Galaxy S series, sporting the new Exynos 2100 chipset and a triple-setup camera. The S21 has a 6.2-inch display while the S21 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. Both phones have an adaptive display, with a maximum 120 Hz refresh rate and the portrait mode with a virtual studio lighting and AI background effects that will also work for front-faced photos.
Both S21 and S21 Plus support 8K video resolution, 64MP telephoto, 12MP ultra-wide camera, and 12MP wide angle camera. Unfortunately, the S21 series does not support a microSD card slot for expandable local storage and their S21 boxes will not include a power adapter and ear buds but will provide a USB Type-C cable.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 is priced at PHP 49,990 which comes in four colors (Violet, Pink, Gray, and White), while the Galaxy S21+ is priced at PHP 57,990 that comes in three colors (Silver, Black, and Violet). Both models will be available for purchase starting January 29.
Galaxy S21 Ultra with S-Pen, S-Pen Pro
Also powered by the Exynos 2100 chipset, the S21 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display and a 6.8-inch panel with a 1Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It comes with a quad rear camera (ultra-wide, wide, and dual tele-lenses) that features a 108 MP sensor, allowing users to capture 12 bit HDR photos. This also features 100x Space Zoom powered by Samsung’s Dual-tele lens system–one optical 3x and one optical 10x both equipped Dual Pixel (2PD) A. They also improved its Bright Night sensor for low-light photography.
In addition, Galaxy S21 Ultra is the first in Galaxy S-series that is compatible with the S-Pen. There is no built-in slot for the popular stylus pen, so customers have to purchase it separately. The standard S-Pen is intended for writing and drawing while S-Pen Pro is physically larger than the standard stylus. It also introduces a Bluetooth Low Energy Support that enables gesture navigation and the ability to control the S21 Ultra. The S-Pen Pro will be available in the market later this year.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra gets two colors, Phantom Black and Phantom Silver, priced at PHP 69,990 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB and PHP 79,990 for the 16GB RAM + 512GB.
Samsung Knox Vault
Samsung also introduced the Samsung Knox Vault for the S21 series that allows users to remove location metadata from images and share other content privately via Knox Secure.
Samsung Exynos 2100 will power the Galaxy S21 series
The chipset offers 20% faster CPU, 35% faster GPU, and 2x faster AI engine. Samsung claimed that with this chipset, S21 series can process graphics and AI faster than any other Galaxy device.
Galaxy Buds Pro
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro comes with an 11-millimeter woofer for deeper bass and a 6.5-millimeter tweeter for treble with minimum distortion along with three microphones and a Voice Pickup Unit (VPU). It features an intelligent Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a new two-way speaker system allowing a richer sound signature, tuned by AKG. Its audio delivers a 360-degree audio immersion, including a real-time conversation detector that automatically cuts down music volume when the user is speaking. The device can also switch between multiple devices when the user is multitasking.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro has a price tag of PHP 9,990 with three available colors, Phantom Black, Phantom Silver, and Phantom Violet.
Galaxy Smart Tag & Smart Tag Plus
The Galaxy Smart Tag is a Bluetooth tracker that helps users find their belongings by attaching the Smart Tag to any of their things. This will have a built-in battery and can connect to other Galaxy smartphones within the area over an end-to-end encrypted network that can let users find their Smart Tag from a distance. Samsung claimed that the tag will be able to locate the lost item to the most precise location.
Connected experiences on Galaxy devices
At the end of the event, SVP Experience Planning & SDIC Frederico Casalegno discussed the importance of knowing the users to design experiences that address their needs. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration of Samsung with different platforms like Microsoft and Google.
“At Samsung, we’re uniquely equipped to deliver this experience because our device integration is unmatched in the industry… Our technology works together to give you extraordinary experiences every single day.”
