Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time together with mobile game company goGame launched their newest turn-based RPG, “Adventure Time Heroes,” last July 13 after the successful pre-registration of the game in South East Asia (SEA).
Many fans have enjoyed the magical world of Ooo in Adventure Time for almost 10 years, filled with mages, aliens, little people, monsters, and more. In fact, goGame decided to please not only turn-based strategy genre lovers, but also the fans of the show by introducing a variety of playable characters, good graphics, and elaboration of the magic world.
Gaming features
Adventure Time Heroes allow its players to enter the magical world of Ooo and stop Lich, the embodiment of evil, from destroying all forms of life. Players have to build a massive army of characters in order to stop Lich’s army of minions and save Ooo.
The game features more than 80 story mode adventures, nine dungeons, a specialized Player versus Player (PvP) arena for online battles, as well as Player versus Environment (PvE) battles. Players can also create or join a clan and participate in daily clan activities to attain achievements.
In addition, there are over 200 characters from the show, including the iconic Finn and Jake, that are playable for players to assemble their team of heroes and villains with diverse skills and aura that can help them stop Lich’s minions from destroying Ooo. Players can recruit the squad heroes as they see fit, unlock expertisms branches to boost each Hero’s unique strengths, and discover various trinkets, accessories, and materials in the game that can help them reinforce their army.
Adventure Time Heroes is a turn-based RPG where battles in the game consist of turns and players can command their characters to execute attacks versus their opponents. In a turn-based strategy game, there are two phases: the attacking and defending. In attacking, players can select their chosen heroes or villains to attack and the type of attack they want against their opponent. The game calculates the damage based on the character’s strength and the opponent’s defense. Meanwhile, the player can’t do anything to prevent damage, evade, or parry in the defending phase.
‘Server under Maintenance’
Despite some of its good features, Adventure Time Heroes suffer from flaws. Technical issues drag the experience down caused by the long buffer, misplaced or oddly mixed sound cues, and a sudden ‘server under maintenance’ text that will pop up on the screen. However, this is a genuine attempt to create the type of experience Adventure Time fans will enjoy, especially to children. It falls short in many ways, but players will surely get to have an adventure in Ooo, even if it was surrounded with both magical and technical barriers.
Fans in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Philippines can now download the game on Google Play and Apple Store, and join Finn and Jake on their exciting adventures.
