Vice Chancellor of Academics Geronio Ulayao officially announced via email today, July 17, that the President Council has decided to adapt online learning for the next school year due to the country’s current conditions, including risks of transmissibility and infection via Benilde mail sent to the Benildean community earlier today.

The President Council has also agreed upon the following procedures that are to be implemented in the first term of the Academic Year, which will run from September to December 2020.

  • The College’s Angelo King International Center (AKIC) and School of Design and Arts Campus (SDA) will remain closed until December 2020, while the Taft and Antipolo Campuses will permit access to those with appointments only.
  • Only Frosh and 3rd term courses that are capable of being delivered online will be offered in the first term.
  • Courses scheduled on the 4th, 7th, and 10th term will be available for BOLT enrollees only if they are capable of being delivered online.
  • Program-designated alternatives will be available to eligible students taking their Practicum/OJT.
  • Thesis and Capstone courses will also be offered to eligible students.
  • For irregular students, “service courses” will be offered and subject to minimum class size guidelines.
  • Majority of the courses will go through modular scheduling. Class schedules will be announced one week prior to the opening of classes.
  • Students changing Incomplete (INC) and Remedial (REM) grades are now given another term for extension, provided that that the grade to be changed is not a prerequisite for a course to be taken during the first term.
  • All transactions will only be done through official Benilde accounts, including Bigsky, the Student Information System (SIS), and the College’s official emails.

The College will also be delaying laboratory courses that cannot be delivered online, and instead providing more lecture courses to help avoid delay in the students’ education.

The following initiatives are also being studied and mediated by the College:

  • A boarding school system, as proposed to the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) for IATF clearance
  • Development a modality that is not dependent on technology
  • Policy-level measures for when face-to-face classes are sanctioned by the government
  • Possible exemption for in-campus completion of INC/REM grades

These terms are subject to change and revision per-term, depending on official government regulations and conditions.
