The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, a go-to for bibliophiles returns to the Philippines, bringing along two million books to be sold at the event, boasting discounts ranging from 50-percent to 90-percent off. The sale offers a wide variety of genres from fiction, nonfiction, novels, literature, young adult fiction, history, reference and children’s books.
The book sale aims to be more environmentally-friendly this year, setting a strict no plastic bag policy for the event, in order to comply with local laws and regulations. Customers are encouraged to bring their own bags to the venue, or to buy eco-bags available for ₱20 at the sale if needed.
Organizers have also taken steps to ensure the health and safety of visitors amongst the Coronavirus concerns. Aside from the management also encouraging visitors to bring their own face masks, everyone who enters the event is required to be checked by infrared thermometers. In compliance with the rules, guests and employees found with high temperatures will not be permitted to enter.
Big Bad Wolf has partnered with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) to use the event as a way to promote awareness on the copyright system among writers and readers alike. In line with this objective, both the book sale organization and the IPOPHL-created program authors and creators are to register their works at the IPOPHL booth to ensure that they are under copyright protection.
The traveling book sale has also been a long-time partner with Gawad Kalinga, one of the Philippines’ leading outreach programs. Through this partnership, a portion of the proceeds, as well as 1000 books, will be donated to Gawad Kalinga, which will be distributed to communities affected by the Taal Volcano eruption and to communities and public schools in Mindoro.
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale runs from February 14 to 24, operating 24 hours a day until the final day of the sale at the World Trade Center, Pasay City. Admission is free for all attendees.
