The De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (DLS-CSB) Lady Blazers asserted their dominance against the San Beda University (SBU) Lady Red Spikers in a four-set match, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22, earlier today, Jan. 30, in NCAA Season 95 Women’s Volleyball at the FilOil Flying-V Center, San Juan.

The Lady Blazers struggled at the start of the match as Lady Red Spikers Maria Neza Viray and Trisha Mae Paras fired speed shots. The Lady Blazers’ combined efforts were not enough to dismantle the Lady Red Spikers in grabbing the first set, 17-25.
During the second set, Lady Blazers Gayle Pascual and Chelsea Umali, who culminated a 20 and a 14-point marker respectively, racked consecutive blocks from the attacks of Lady Red Spikers. However, the Mendiola-based squad’s advantage was short-lived as the Lady Blazers’ tactics led them to tie the set scores to 1-1, 25-18.
The women in green and white still followed the same scheme in the third set as Umali sent cross court attacks. However, the Lady Red Spikers were able to steal the lead as Aurea Francesca Racraquin answered back with her rapid shots. Meanwhile, Pascual powered up the team with her five-point blast to end the third set, 25-22.
The Lady Blazers entered the fourth set being outwitted by Viray’s back speed shots, snatching the lead. However, Lady Blazer Diane Ventura, who secured 14 points, anchored the team to tie up with the Lady Red Spikers, 19-19. The Taft squad was able to assert their dominance as the Mendiola-based squad struggle to execute witty plays while Lady Blazer Mycah Go capped the match with a speed shot, 25-22.
The DLS-CSB Lady Blazers are set to extend their victory against the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Lady Bombers on Feb. 7 at the same venue.
