One of the most famous Filipino folktales will be given a contemporary reimagining through the dance theater production Mulat: Ang Hindi Sinukuan sa Arayat from July 28 to 29 at the School of Design and Arts’ Black Box.

Directed by Justin Diolazo, the piece is a version of the myth of Maria Sinukuan that also provides commentary on issues such as local mining, the preservation of nature, war, and the youth and how they affect the indigenous community. The show aims to raise awareness around current environmental issues.

Mulat: Ang Hindi Sinukuan sa Arayat is Diolazo’s thesis project under the Dance program. Aside from Diolazo’s choreography and direction, the piece was written by Nicko De Guzman, with music by Paulo Estero. In addition, the show will feature the College’s resident dance group, Saint Benilde Romancon Dance Company.

Show schedules are as follows:

July 28, Friday – 7 p.m.
July 29, Saturday – 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The production is a joint project of the Arts Management and Dance programs and the Office of Culture of Arts.
