The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers steamrolled the University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta (UPHSD) Lady Altas at the Shakey’s Super League Pre-Season Unity Cup, today, Oct. 5, at the Paco Arena, Manila.

The first set wasn’t off to a good start as Charisse Mae Enrico stood guard to defend Las Piñas’ half of the taraflex tying the game at 6-6. Zam Nolasco responded with a service ace all the way from Taft to break the deadlock. However, Shai Omipon took over the reins and launched a 0-4 run against the Lady Blazers, extending the set, but the perfectly placed return-to-sender shot from Lady Blazers’ Team Captain Fiona Getigan sealed the first set in their favor, 28-26.

The second set saw a stronger start for the Lady Blazers as Chenae Basarte and Camila Bartolome moved in lockstep while Fiona Inocentes launched five straight points down into the paint of the Lady Altas. The ladies in maroon and yellow responded in the form of Jazhryll Lagmay at their helm trimming the Lady Blazers advantage down to two points. However, the Taft squad reeled in the set with a winning point from Nolasco, 26-24.

The final frame saw another strong start for the Lady Blazers, but the Lady Altas capitalized on their errors, trimming down the lead to three points courtesy of Camille Bustamante. The ladies donning green and white found their rhythm and waltzed through the defenses of Las Piñas with Clyde Catarig hammering down the final nail in the coffin, 25-18.

Nolasco was crowned player of the match with 12 points on 7 attacks, 3 blocks, and 2 aces.

The Lady Blazers will face the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Lady Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
