The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Lady Blazers swept the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 3-0, to secure their fourth consecutive title finish in the NCAA Season 100 Women’s Volleyball Tournament today, June 11, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Anchored by Wielyn Estoque, the Lady Blazers played like a well-oiled machine to kick off the first set. Things looked up as the Lady Knights found their rhythm and staged a 4-0 run; however, Zam Nolasco and Mycah Go retaliated to secure the set, 25-19.
A back-and-forth battle commenced in the second set as the Lady Knights Judiel Nitura and Gia Maquilang picked up their offense to match the Taft squad’s net defense. Ultimately, it was Nolasco’s efforts that allowed the defending champions to pull away, 25-22.
The third set played out similarly to the previous frame as both teams exchanged points. However, Nolasco once again provided the ladies in green and white with a safety cushion, 15-10. Nitura came alive to revive Letran’s spirits, but it was too late as Christie Ondangan delivered the final blow to secure the centennial crown, 25-19.
Go was crowned Finals MVP in the final match of her collegiate career, while Coach Onyok Getigan was hailed as Coach of the Year.
