The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Lady Blazers kicked off their second round campaign with a victory against the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Lady Bombers, while the Benilde Blazers succumbed to the JRU Heavy Bombers, 3-1 and 1-3 respectively on April 22, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
The Lady Blazers wasted no time as they took over to secure the first set with Rhea Densing and Cristy Ondangan leading the way, 25-16.
However, the tide of the match quickly shifted as the Lady Bombers started to find their groove. Still, the women in green and white remained composed to snatch the 2-0 advantage, 28-26.
The third set witnessed JRU’s Nicole Deala and Shanine Pretta leading the charge as the Shaw squad stayed on course to secure the set, 19-25.
The Lady Bombers’ set point served as a wake-up call for the Lady Blazers, allowing them take over the fourth set and bring home the victory, 25-13.
Next up, the Benilde Blazers, anchored by super rookie Rocky Motol, showed why they are a force to be reckoned with by commanding the first set, 25-18. Meanwhile, the Heavy Bombers, who were desperate to capture their first win, took everyone by surprise as they outplayed the Taft squad in consecutive sets, both 22-25.
The men donning blue and gold showed no signs of stopping as they continued to match the Blazers’ intensity. With Harry Ocay at the helm, the Shaw squad secured a statement win at the expense of the men in green and white, 23-25.
Ondangan was hailed as the best player of the match, tallying up 13 points in 11 attacks, while Motol led the men’s squad with 20 points.
The Benilde Blazers and Lady Blazers are set to face the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals on April 26 with live telecast on Heart of Asia and the NCAA Philippines Facebook and YouTube pages.
