The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Blazers and Lady Blazers attained a double victory against the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Pirates and Lady Pirates, both 3-0, today, March 21, at the Jose Rizal University Gym in Mandaluyong City.

The first two sets between the Lady Blazers and Lady Pirates kicked off as a see-saw match. However, the Taft squad found their footing mid-set to stage a 10-3 run to secure the first set, 25-16.

Joan Doguna steered the Pirates as she anchored the team; however, her efforts were not enough as the ladies in green and white remained consistent to attain a 2-0 advantage, 25-17. With Clydel Catarig and Zam Nolasco at the helm of their offense, the Lady Blazers continued to take control of the match and sweep the Lady Pirates, 25-14.

As the Benilde Blazers looked to continue their winning ways, the Pirates stood in their way as they secured an early lead in the first set. After the score was tied 15-15, the men donning green and white slowly but surely inched their way to claim the first set, 25-19. Led by Arnel Aguilar and Jacob Herrera, the Blazers did not take their feet off the gas pedal as they kept the upper hand in the succeeding set, 25-15.

The Pirates’ determination to end their dry spell was evident as they took charge in the third set. However, Benilde locked in to halt the Muralla squad’s run as they finished business, 25-14.

Catarig and Aguilar shined as the top performers of the day contributing 19 and 16 pts respectively.

The Benilde Blazers and Lady Blazers will face the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals and Lady Generals on March 27 at the EAC Gym with a live telecast on the NCAA Philippines Facebook and YouTube pages.
