Stickers, comics, prints, and more with Komiket's October market

“There's something incredibly enriching about an art community so tight knit and loving that I wish more Filipinos had the time to be part of in their lives.” - Aze Granada, ID114 Arts Management student and Komiket volunteer

Stamped and ready, an art enthusiast’s eyes aren’t prepared for the wonders of Komiket’s hundreds of artists. Visiting tables one by one, Komiket continues to provide both a market for attendees to interact with some of their favorite artists and an avenue for local artists to put themselves out there.

Stickers, prints, comics, zines, and more graced SM Megamall’s grounds yet again on Oct. 21 to 22 as Komiket, a non-profit organization that hosts multiple art markets each year, came back to bring the local indie art scene back to the forefront.

With over 400 local artists, there’s a lot to look forward to in Komiket October. One can witness the several attendees lined up outside just to support the local arts. As more people entered the event, more and more people crowded each corner which eventually led to different tables selling out most of their merchandise as well.

Some notable artists at the event included Tarantadong Kalbo, Loghily, and Trese comic artist Kajo Baldisimo. As the event went on, many prizes were given out as Kajo Baldisimo also signed fans' Trese copies as well.

In an interview with The Benildean, ID114 Bachelor of Arts in Arts Management student Aze Granada shared about his experiences volunteering for Komiket. “The general experience of being at Komiket is such a freeing thing no matter how many years I’ve attended,” Granada shared, listing down the small moments as memorable parts of his Komiket experience.

Looking further into the market map

While the future of art markets continue to prove itself to be bright with more markets such as Art to Cart, Buzzart, and Patron of the Arts all debuting within the year, artists are sure to find more spaces to put themselves into the industry.

To Granada, he wished that more people would be able to enjoy the experience of attending Komiket. “I hope more people from all generations could attend Komiket events,” further sharing how “consuming art and being able to support those that make the things you enjoy is a fun circle to be part of! Everyone should give it a try!”

With no less than a thousand con-goers in both days, Komiket managed to remain as one of the go-to markets for original art and Filipino Komiks.

For those who wish to buy a little something for their loved ones, stay tuned for Komiket’s last market of the year with Paskomiket on Nov. 25 to 26 at SM Megamall, Megatrade Hall 2!
