Benildean woodpusher Adrian Othniel Yulo paved his way to the semifinals while his teammate and opponent John Michael Magpily failed to advance to the next round of the NCAA 96 online chess tournament earlier today, July 23, on GMA’s GTV channel.

In an unexpected turn of events, both representatives from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde clashed in the quarterfinals match.

With both having years of experience in playing chess, today’s match became a test of who was the best among the two Benildean chess masters.

In the end, Yulo bested Magpily, which means he will continue his journey and represent the College on Monday, July 26, at 3:00 p.m. via GTV.

Besides Yulo, Carl Zirex Sato of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA also advanced to the semifinals during his match yesterday, July 22.
